Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is making headlines, which means marketers can now derive endless insight from her.
That’s because newsjacked content is often the very best content, isn’t it?
Here’s a list of Notorious RBG facts and marketing platitudes that can be loosely tied together to temporarily boost our traffic:
1. Be authentic.
That’s because people tend to like it more when content is real as opposed to, you know, fake. And – hey – RBG just spoke her mind in the NYT and what is more authentic than that? And then she expressed regret, which is another totally authentic emotion.
2. Content is king.
You know what else is king? RBG’s fashion sense. This is a woman who has a jabot for every occasion (and we totally thought of that phrase ourselves before reading it word-for-word in Salon, so it’s not stealing, it’s great minds, okay?) – including a special jabot she wears just to deliver dissents! Swoon. (ed: A Jabot? That’s some kind of trained helper monkey right?)
3. SEO is dead.
But you know what else? What doesn’t kill you/SEO makes you/SEO stronger. And RBG is totes strong. This is a woman who raised a toddler while attending Harvard Law School and still became the first female member of the Harvard Law Review despite a bunch of dumb boys. She also refuses to retire. Even President Obama said she was arguably “the toughest justice of the Supreme Court.” Respect.

4. Disrupt or be disrupted.
Because, you know, if you don’t disrupt your own brand, someone else will. Hello, Blockbuster, Blackberry, etc. BTW, did you know Ruth Bader Ginsburg waterskied until she was in her 70s? If that’s not unexpected/disruptive, I don’t know what is.
5. Millennials!
Oh, yay, our favorite! And Millennials <3 Ruth. They have that Tumblr, but also memes, GIFs, tattoos and merchandise. There’s even a praying mantis named after her, undoubtedly by a Millennial. We wonder how fellow lacy-necked legal pro Judge Judy feels about this.
