Interview with a Master Link Baiter

SEOs still covet quality links. The practice of link baiting is nothing new and some long time SEOs have truly mastered this practice. Last week we had the pleasure of sitting down and talking technique and other trade secrets with SEO Consultant Harold Palms, who has described himself as a master link baiter.

Q: You’ve been at this a very long time. At what point did you become a master link baiter?

A: Well, it’s true, I’ve been doing this for a long time and I started when I was very young. I guess I was like one of those child prodigy entrepreneurs that started a business young.  I think it was around the age of 14 or 15 when I felt I truly became a master link baiter.  It takes time. Not everyone is able to do it well at first. You really have to get the feel for it and understand what techniques work best for you.

Q:  As someone who is truly a master link baiter, you’re very open and public about what you do. Is that really the way to be? Do you find it appropriate?

A: I do realize I am a master link baiter, but I’m also a consultant. So that background compels me to answer that ‘it depends’. It depends on your own unique situation. When I first started, I was very private and secretive about all of it. I didn’t think anyone else did what I did and I honestly really didn’t know what I was doing, However, as I’ve gotten older and more experienced, I’ve grown more comfortable with everything so it’s been a natural progression. Honestly, it’s kind of a rush, if you know what I mean!

Q: If you were to give one piece of advice to other aspiring master link baiters, what would it be?

A: Simple – A great visual is everything. People, by nature, are visual and that allows for some very creative practices. You need the right inspiration so you yourself can visualize. Otherwise you’re just putting your junk out there.

Q: What risks (both short and long term) as a master link baiter?

A: .  You often feel like you’re in a dark and lonely place, but that just is what it is. You spend a lot of time looking at a screen which isn’t always the best for you. I guess you know you’re truly a master link baiter when your eyesight starts to suffer as a result.

Q: It really feels like a complicated and oftentimes messy practice. Is it?

A: Honestly, it’s not that complicated. Really, anyone with a screen, a connection, a creative mind can become a master link baiter like me.. However, I will concede that it can get messy and you need to be prepared for that. Have you seen all the stuff that’s out there on the internet? It’s crazy and you need to be able to navigate your way through that until you find what can really satisfy your objectives.

Q: What’s your relationship like with other master link baiters? How much are you involved?

A: Great question. Although I’m very visible and public about what I do, sometimes it is nice to just connect with other master link baiters in private.  So we often gather and sit around in a circle and just be ourselves and let it all hang out. Sometimes we’ll share secrets and trade tips.

Q: So what’s next for you?

A: Well {chuckles} I love what I do so as soon as we’re done, I’m going to get right back at it! Long term, who knows? I may decide to do a podcast. That’s an in thing to do now, right?

As I concluded the interview, we said our goodbyes and shook hands with a true master link baiting legend. Honestly, it felt like I was shaking hands with Bigfoot.  I must say the overall experience was extremely gratifying for me.  I hope this interview has left you inspired to learn what it truly takes to become a master link baiter!
